In consultation with our client we took their ideas and formed them into potential solutions and options that could be further developed into designs. We discussed both an option to place the simulator in the garden within a purpose built building and an option as a first floor side extension but with a raised ceiling height to accommodate the height of a golf swing.
As part of our design exercise a full height glazed gable was utilised to accommodate the projector, height required for swing arc and depth away from projector screen. The space would equally function as a home cinema, guest accommodation and home office and was proposed with a WC/Shower and fully functional kitchen. Other options for the garden outbuilding incorporated a hot tub, dining area, roof lanterns and more. We also prepared a garden landscaping render to show how the building could look within the space alongside other areas such as outside dining, American style BBQ and hot tub.
Options were prepared for the first floor side extension to accommodate the golf simulator and gym also. These were complex in terms of their integration with the existing garage, house roof and the slanted nature of the plot boundary. With some clever design details, using a tie bar truss and more, we were able to exceed the minimum height required for the swing arc within the space. At the same time we prepared plans for reconfiguring the frontage to the property, extending and converting the garage and adding a new porch canopy to modernise the appearance of the building.
The client was so pleased with our designs that he decided to take forward the first floor side extension for the golf simulator whilst at the same time looking to progress a slightly reconfigured outbuilding design for use as a home bar, darts area, hot tub zone and WC.
